An intruder sparked a security alert at the White House on Wednesday evening when he jumped a fence into the grounds.
The unarmed man made his way across the north lawn before being brought down by specially trained Secret Service dogs. He was then arrested.
But the breach in security coming as it did on the same day a gunman attacked Canada’s parliament, caused police to initiate their own lockdown of the building until it was clear the man was on his own.
The incident comes roughly a month after another intruder – this time armed with a knife – scaled the White House fence and made it inside the executive mansion.
That incident raised questions about levels of security and led to the resignation of then-Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.
