Following their emphatic 7-1 over AS Roma in the Champions League, Bayern Munich players and staff visited Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday.
The football-loving Argentinian head of the Roman Catholic Church said he was “surprised by the result” and praised his guests’ performance at the Stadio Olimpico.
The team were still in high spirits after recording their biggest European away win with team captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer presenting the Pope with a framed and signed Bayern shirt.
