Talks in Algeria between protesting police officers and the government have broken up without any firm results.
More than one thousand officers have been holding a sit-in for three days outside the prime minister’s office demanding better pay and public housing for their families.
The protest was triggered by complaints by riot units after they had been sent to deal with an outbreak of violence between two communities in a desert town.
Protests by security forces are rare in Algeria.
