A Sudanese medical official in his fifties who was working for the UN in Liberia has died of Ebola in a hospital in Leipzig, Germany.

Another person has left hospital after five weeks treatment, while Frankfurt hospital is still treating a third. Ebola has so far killed more than 4,000 people, mostly in West Africa.

Meanwhile in Britain where the authorities say they are expecting to deal with a handful of cases at most, screening of passengers deemed “high risk” has begun at Heathrow airport, even if medical opinion is that arrivals screening has only limited impact.

EU ministers meet on Thursday to discuss EU point-of-entry screening measures.
