Spain: officials kill dog belonging to nurse infected with Ebola

Spanish officials determined to contain the spread of Ebola have killed the pet dog belonging to a nurse infected with the deadly virus.

When a group of men wearing white protective suits showed up outside the nurse and her husband’s home, animal rights activists chanted: “Murderers! Killers!”

The nurse’s husband, who has also been quarantined, recorded a video appeal.

“Hello, I’m Javier, Teresa Romero’s husband. I’m in the hospital and I’m asking everybody to help me save my dog Excalibur. They want to kill it without giving it a chance (no tests, no quarantine…),” he said in the appeal.

There are no documented cases of dogs passing the Ebola virus to humans.

More than 300,000 people signed an online petition to save Excalibur before it was killed by authorities.
