Nearly seven months after the unexplained disappearance of Flight MH370, a ship using special sonar technology is resuming underwater search operations in the southern Indian Ocean.

The Beijing-bound Malaysian plane is presumed to have crashed with 239 people on board, in what is modern aviation’s greatest mystery.

The latest phase of the search is expected to take up to a year, focusing on a 60,000-sq-km patch of sea floor some 1,600 km west of the Australian city of Perth.

Malaysia Airlines has been hit this year by the loss of two of its airliners, after Flight MH17 was shot down over a conflict zone in eastern Ukraine.
