Indigenous Mapuche community protests in Chile
Chilean national police officers clashed with a group of about 70 protesters from the indigenous Mapuche community as they gathered outside the presidential palace in the capital Santiago on Wednesday. The people were were protesting the death of a Mapuche named Jose Mauricio Quintriqueo Huaiquimil.
Local media report that Huaiquimil was run over by a tractor trailer after entering a private plot of land in the Araucania region. The Mapuche people say Huaiquimil was intentionally killed. Local investigators are still trying to establish exactly what happened.
