Much to the disappointment of his female fans, actor George Clooney and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin have married in Venice.
Water taxis transported the world’s most famous bachelor and the couple’s celebrity guests to the wedding venue, a seven star hotel overlooking the Grand Canal.
But his Lebanese-born fiancee stayed out of public view ahead of the private ceremony.
A-listers like Bill Murray, Cindy Crawford and Bono helped the special day create a certain buzz, while camera crews and the papparazzi hired other boats to get the best shots of the guests.
Having vowed never to remarry after his 1993 divorce from actress Talia Balsam, Clooney is thought to have made a $100,000 bet with Michelle Pfeiffer that he would stay single.
He and Alamuddin met through a friend at a charity fundraising event last September.
A civil wedding ceremony was expected to be held on Monday at Venice’s town hall but it is unclear whether it will go ahead.
Several nearby streets will be closed for two hours just in case.
