Obama says the ISIL 'network of death' must be destroyed

The world must come together and collectively reject what has become a “cancer of violent extremism”.

That message from the US President at the UN General Assembly, where he said militants are “perverting one of the world’s greatest religions”.

He vowed that ISIL must be destroyed and their ideologies of hate exposed and renounced.

“The only language understood by killers like this is the language of force,” he said. “So the United States of America will work on a broad coalition to dismantle this network of death.”

Obama used graphic language to condemn Islamic State’s methods, saying the militants had used rape as a weapon of war, gunned down children, dumped bodies in mass graves, and beheaded their victims.

“No God condones this terror,” he said.
