New York: massive climate change demonstration
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and former US Vice President Al Gore joined thousands of demonstrators from all over the country in Manhattan on Sunday, taking part in a global march to urge policy makers to take action on climate change. Also taking part were several Hollywood actors including Mark Ruffalo and Evangeline Lilly.
According to organisers, some 40,000 people attended a similar event in London at the weekend.
More than 120 world leaders will convene on Tuesday for a United Nations Climate Summit aimed at galvanising political will for a new global climate treaty by the end of 2015.
