Hurricane Odile batters Mexico

Hurricane Odile has lashed Mexico’s Baja California, uprooting trees and downing power lines.

Winds of around 145 kilometres per hour battered the country’s northwestern coast including some of its most popular tourist destinations.

The strength of the hurricane has since been downgraded but officials have warned of the risk of mudslides and flooding.

Thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes as the storm and rising water levels neared.
