President of UEFA Michel Platini hit out once more against racism in football on Wednesday saying the era of “dad’s soccer – bad, macho and white – is over.”
Speaking at a diversity meeting in Rome, the former France international promised to strive to make sure football was a truly integrated sport and that racism would not be tolerated.
Platini said: ‘‘I will not hide the fact that the path is long, full of ambushes, obstacles and blind opposition. But I promise you solemnly today that nothing will prevent us from persevering and going everyday a step further.
“The Europe of ‘dad’s soccer – bad, macho and white – is over, and thankfully it will never come back.’‘
The head of European football’s governing body also promised a ruling from the organization’s disciplinary arm over an alleged racist comment by the Italian football federation’s new leader Carlo Tavecchio, who caused a stir over a reference to bananas when discussing the presence of foreign players in Italy.
