Five-time grand tour winner Alberto Contador has said he will not compete in the upcoming road world championships which will take place in his native Spain later this month.
Contador was speaking on the second and final rest day of the Vuelta a Espana and admitted that the ‘Worlds’ were not a part of his plans for the season and added he needs time to rest up.
Contador currently leads the Tour of Spain with five days remaining and is closing in on a third title.
The world championships will be held in Ponferrada, Spain, starting 21 September.
