Summer Bonus smiles for Japanese as wages turn corner

Summer Bonus season has started well in Japan, where employers rewarded workforces with increases of 7.1% compared to last July. With August bonus figures to come, regular pay also rose for a second month, although real wages, after adjustments to consumer price changes, fell for a 13th straight month.

However the decline is slowing, maybe a sign the economy is sliding off its stagflationary iceberg and heading towards the blue waters of growth again. Regular wages also rose for a second month after 27 months of falls, and they rose stronger than in June.
