Manchester United splash the cash in summer transfers

Manchester United were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in action on deadline day of the summer transfer window on Monday night.

With six new players arriving at the theatre of dreams certain others had to make way.

Striker Danny Welbeck was one of several players to leave the 20-times champions and second forward to leave on deadline day after Javier Hernandez joined Real Madrid on loan.

The Manchester-born 23-year-old has signed a “long-term deal” with Arsenal for a fee of 20 million euros.

Among those to join on a nerve-jangling deadline day for United fans was Dutch international Daley Blind who has signed a four year deal worth just over 17 million euros.

The 24-year-old son of ex-Netherlands international Danny Blind can play at left-back and as a defensive midfielder.

At United Blind joins fellow new comers Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, British record signing Angel Di Maria and loanee Radamel Falcao, whose transfer was announced well after the deadline leaving many United fans heading to work on Tuesday with bags under their eyes.

United have now spent some 188 million euros in new signings this summer which according to reports was the highest gross transfer spend in a single window by any club.

This summer transfer window saw a record spending spree for the Premier League clubs who together spent a combined one billion euros – almost 260 million euros more than last summer.
