Vuelta a España: Bouhanni clinches stage 8


France’s Nacer Bouhanni timed his sprint perfectly to claim stage 8 of the Vuelta a Espana on Saturday.

The 24-year-old overcame strong crosswinds to complete the 207km trek from Baeza to Albacete in a winning time of 4 hours and 29 minutes.

Bouhanni launched his burst for the line almost 300m out and just managed to hold off a late a surge from Michael Matthews, with both riders finishing well clear of third-placed Peter Sagan.

Movistar’s Alejandor Valverde finished safely to retain his 15 second advantage over Nairo Quintana in the overall standings, with Alberto Contador remaining 18 seconds back in third.
