Internet giants play Game of Drones

It appears we are set for drone wars between two giant internet companies with the news Google is developing an airborne delivery system it says could bring anything from chocolate to medicine to your front door.

“Project Wing” is being seen as the search engine’s bid to break into the profitable world of package delivery, and expand its currently-thin commercial activities.

The prototype has a 1.5 metre wingspan and can fly along pre-programmed routes.

Currently Amazon dominates the to-your-door delivery market, and last year announced it was creating a delivery drone for a service dubbed ‘Prime Air’.

In 2012, Congress required the Federal Aviation Authority to establish a road map for the broader use of drones.

The FAA has allowed limited use of drones in the United States for surveillance, law enforcement, atmospheric research and other applications.
