One of this summer’s longest transfer sagas finally came to an end on Tuesday when Manchester United signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid.
United paid a British transfer record of 59.7 million pounds – almost 75 million euros – eclipsing the 50 million pounds Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011.
The Argentina international, who played a key role in his nation’s run to the World Cup final this summer, passed a medical on Tuesday before signing a five-year deal with the Red Devils.
The 26-year-old winger is United’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Luke Shaw, Ander Herrara and Argentina teammate Marcos Rojo.
Di Maria’s United debut is expected to be on Saturday against Burnley.
