After being unveiled as Liverpool’s new player controversial striker Mario Balotelli admitted to his surprise at joining the Merseyside outfit because of his previously poor relationship with the club’s fans.
The Italy international completed a 20 million euro switch from AC Milan on Monday and has signed a long-term contract.
Balotelli said: “I didn’t expect it because I always play against Liverpool, so I never play with Liverpool and when I used to play against Liverpool, the fans definitely didn’t like me, but that’s normal, that is football. But, now that I’m playing for Liverpool, I see the expectation in people and they were very happy and make me happy at the same time.”
The 24-year-old was in the stands to watch Liverpool lose 3-1 to champions and his former club Man City on Monday night and is likely to make his debut against Tottenham next weekend.
He becomes The Red’s ninth summer signing and has been brought in to fill the void left by Luis Suarez, who joined Barcelona.
