Floodwaters in parts of central Sweden are said by emergency workers to be at “catastrophic levels”, with more rain expected to make things worse by the weekend.

Sections of a motorway and a main railway line were closed.

Worst hit has been Värmland county and the city of Kristinehamn, where several roads were closed and a dam was flooded.
