America’s Tiger Woods ruled himself out of contention for a wildcard spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team due to lingering back problems on Wednesday.
The former World number One, who failed to qualify automatically for the Gleneagles event, had surgery in March and has been told not to play by doctors.
Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Phil Mickelson are the nine automatic qualifiers for a place on the 12-man American team.
