Borussia Dortmund outclassed Bayern Munich 2-0 in the German Supercup to win the first domestic title of the season at the Westfalenstadion on Wednesday.
Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a powerful finish as Pep Guardiola’s defensive game plan was dealt a severe blow when Javi Martinez had to leave the field on a stretcher after an innocuous looking challenge.
Bayern, without Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara, failed to create clear-cut chances and were eventually punished by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 62nd minute.
The former Saint-Etienne striker sealed the win with a thumping header, giving his side a major boost ahead of the Bundesliga season which kicks off on August 22.
