Humpback whale washes up on Rio beach

A 15-metre long humpback whale, which was found dead on a Rio de Janeiro beach, was removed late on Monday with the help of diggers and a crane.

The 35-tonne marine mammal was discovered dead on Rio’s Macumba beach on Saturday evening.

Cause of death is so far unknown but it is thought the whale was already dead when it reached the shore.
