Polls are open across Turkey in a historic day for the country.
It is the first time that a presidential election has been put to a popular vote.
Three candidates are hoping to get the most amount of ballots.
They are current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, diplomat and academic Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and Turkey’s first openly Kurdish presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtas.
If none of the candidates achieves more than 50% of the ballots a second round will be held on August 24.
Polls are open from 8 am until 5 pm local time.
