The world players’ union called for Luis Suarez’s ban for biting to be reduced on Friday as the Uruguay forward’s appeal was taking place at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.
Football’s world governing body FIFA imposed a four-month ban “from all football-related activity” on the Barcelona striker following the incident which shocked audiences worldwide, meaning Suarez will not be able to make his Barcelona debut until the end of October and will miss the next Copa America in Chile.
Banned twice before for biting, he initially denied sinking his teeth into Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini but then apologised for the incident one week later.
