French and Italian planes – sent in to help fight a massive forest fire in Sweden – have been stuck on the ground because of billowing smoke.
The blaze, described as one of the biggest in modern times, has been burning since last week.
It has spread across east-central areas of the Nordic country, engulfing thousands of hectares of land.
At least one person has been killed and several villages in the Vastmanland region have been evacuated – in what has become a national emergency.
Flames broke out after an unusual spell of hot, dry weather in northern Europe.
