Gaza looks to post war aid to rebuild

Reconstruction in Gaza will cost at least four billion euros according to Palestinian authorities.

Israel’s heavy bombardments mean some towns, like Shejaiya, have been almost wiped off the face of the map.

“It’s complete destruction, we have never seen anything like it. We witnessed three wars, but we’ve never seen anything like this. It’s complete destruction,” said Huda Hassan as she rifled through the rubble of what she believed was once her home.

Palestinian authorities say, with an estimated half a million people displaced, they plan to launch an appeal for donors to aid reconstruction efforts after the guns fall silent.

In 2009, some three billion euros in funds was promised after a three week war between Israel and Gaza’s ruling Hamas but only a fraction of that sum has actually arrived in the battered territory.
