Japan: annual water splash event to save energy
One-hundred women wearing yukata, or summer kimono, took part in an annual water-splashing event in Yokohama, near Tokyo.
The participants chanted “Lets cool the Earth” as they splashed water on the sidewalk that has been designed to lower the ground temperature as the water evaporates.
The event was organised by a local shop owners association. They hope the traditional practice will help to save energy by cutting down on the use of air conditioning.
