Johnson takes a break from golf

Eight-time PGA Tour winner Dustin Johnson announced on Friday that he was taking a leave of absence to seek help for what he called ‘‘personal challenges.’‘

Reports suggesting the American golfer had been suspended for failing a drugs test have been denied by the PGA Tour.

Johnson’s decision means he will not be taking part in next week’s final major of the year, the USPGA Championship or next month’s Ryder Cup match at Gleneagles in Scotland.
