The Paleo music festival in Switzerland attracted around 300,000 people who listened to nearly 300 concerts on six different stages, with Elton John as the headline act.
The festival features all sorts of music styles, and is always happy to host fusions and mixes. The quirky is as much in evidence as the mainstream. Seasick Steve, for example, is known for inventing and building original instruments.
French band Skip The Use played a set which ranged in style from ska to electro. And Ky-Mani Marley, son of the more famous Bob, played his own mix of hip hop and reggae, taking One Love to the world.
James Blunt was warmly welcomed with his mix of ballads and soft rock, a style which is moving closer to folk these days.
The line-up of Plaza Francia included famous faces from other bands: Catherine Ringer, the singer from Rita Mitsouko, Eduardo Makaroff and Christophe Müller from Gotan Project.
Also featured were teen duo Carbon Airways, hailed as promising newcomers with a sound all of their own.
