Airline insurers could be set to hike their premiums for aircraft which are involved in hostile acts as the industry faces its most expensive year since the 9/11 attacks.

Some underwriters its been reported are demanding more than threefold increases in premiums for so-called “war” insurance policies.

It’s understood some companies are asking for exact flight paths are even considering withdrawing from certain types of cover for flights over what they deem dangerous territory.

The move comes in the wake of the recent fighting at Tripoli airport in Libya in which over 20 planes were damaged and the MH17 disaster.
