Israel is to restart its military offensive on Gaza after Hamas rejected a humanitarian truce by continuing to fire rockets into Israel.

Residents in Gaza reported hearing heavy shelling east of Gaza City shortly after the announcement was made.
Hamas said it would only accept a truce if Israel’s military left Gaza and allowed the displaced to return to their homes.
