Six Shakhtar Donetsk players go AWOL

Six Shakhtar Donetsk players have refused to return to Ukraine following a pre-season friendly against Lyon due to political unrest in the country.

The club’s South American players missed their flight back to Donetsk and according to reports in France are now AWOL.

Five of the six players who have been named are Brazilian’s Douglas Costa, Fred, Dentinho, Alex Teixiera and Argentine Facundo Ferreyra.

Reports have also emerged that Metalist Kharkiv’s Argentine midfielder Sebastian Blanco has also refused to return to Ukraine from a training camp in Austria.
