GM aims to launch low-cost models in Europe

General Motors has said it plans to enter the lucrative entry-level car market in Europe in an attempt to win back market share lost to budget rivals.

GM has been struggling to return to profitability across the continent as Europeans hard hit by the economic crisis have chosen low-cost brands like Dacia or South Korea’s Hyundai and Kia.

The CEO of Opel, General Motors business in Europe, has said they are aiming to launch an SUV and a compact car with similar prices to Dacia’s models.

He added that General Motors main aim was to turn its European business round.
