Scolari resigns

Luiz Felipe Scolari has resigned as Brazil manager after the hosts suffered two of their worst defeats in World Cup history.

The 65-year-old’s contract with La Selecao was due to end after the tournament, during which he said the final decision on his fate would rest with the president of the confederation, Jose Maria Marin.

It now appears all parties have agreed a fresh approach is needed to rebuild Brazilian football as Neymar’s team-mates had to settle for fourth place after suffering a humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany in the semi-final and a 3-0 loss to the Netherlands in Brasilia.

Former Corinthians boss Tite and Muricy Ramalho of Sao Paulo have both been linked with the job.
