Argentina has advanced to the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990 by beating Belgium 1-0 in Brasilia.
Argentine fans at Brasilia’s Mane Garrincha National Stadium described the nail-biting match.
“Very nervous, very beautiful, a spectacular experience! It was truly beautifull,” said Silvia Hughes from Buenos Aires.
Alessandro Constantini, from San Juan, told reporters: “It’s the fifth game we’ve watched and every time we suffer more. But we’re winning!”
In Brussels, Belgian fans had packed out the Heysel stadium to watch the red devils take on Argentina.
Amid the disappointment at the result, there was celebration as well of how well the Belgian team has played.
“We’re a bit disappointed because we would have liked to reach the semi-finals, but I think they played well, and Argentina too. So, congratulations to Argentina, and we’ll see the devils at the Euros. We’ll go to France to support them,” said one enthusiastic fan.
