Greek fans proud of their team

Greek fans gathered across the country to watch their team face Costa Rica in a World Cup second round match that proved to be a real nail-biter.

Costa Rica led until the dying minutes of the game but Greece, in the knock out stages of the tournament for the first time, managed to equalise with a goal that forced the match into extra time and then penalties.

To the dismay of millions of Greeks on the edge of their seats, Costa Rica won in the shoot out and secured their place in the next round.

“Greece fought hard, they deserved to win but they were unlucky. It’s a real shame,” said one supporter.

“Disappointment and pride. The two words that sum up how Greek fans are feeling after the match against Costa Rica. The country is proud of the team’s great achievement but there’s no denying that supporters are disappointed that Greece won’t be continuing on in the tournament,” explained Ioannis Karagiorgas, euronews correspondent in Athens.
