As the cease-fire extension draws to an end in eastern Ukraine a government army convoy has come under attack near the town of Slovyansk.

According to Ukranian officials three soldiers were killed during the shoot out with pro-Moscow rebels.

Sporadic fighting has been ongoing throughout the eight-day cease-fire in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In Kyiv people gathered close to the presidential palace to protest against the truce, which many believe plays into the hands of the pro-Russians.

A Ukrainian soldier gave his opinion: “The first thing we have to do to stop the violence is establish martial law in Donetsk and Luhansk. If this is not done I believe the area of the anti-terrorist operation will grow, because the terrorists will have more and more weapons and we will have more and more victims as they continue to get stronger.”

Newly elected President Petro Poroshenko has put a 15-point peace plan on the table in an attempt to end the chaos, which has claimed the lives of 420 people to date.
