The final estimate of US economic growth for the first quarter surprised many. The figures revealed were much worse than previously thought – the sharpest decline in five years. Why was that?

Once the world’s second largest economy – Japan – is eager to get its ranking back. The country’s prime-minister has outlined his long-awaited growth strategy, the so-called ‘third arrow’ of his policy.
