Beckenbauer banned for 90 days

World football’s governing body FIFA has provisionally suspended former World Cup winner Franz Beckenbauer from all football-related activities for 90 days.

FIFA handed the 68-year-old the suspension for “failing to co-operate” with the Qatar 2022 corruption inquiry.

The German who was part of the Fifa executive committee that voted to give the tournament to Russia in 2018 and Qatar four years later had been asked to help with a Fifa ethics investigation.

However FIFA said Bechenbauer – who won the 1974 world cup as a player and the 1990 edition as a coach, had ignored “repeated requests” to assist the investigation.
