US duo MKTO hopes to crack US market

After taking Australia and New Zealand by storm, US duo MKTO have been visiting London before embarking on their North-American summer tour.

Tony Oller and Malcolm Kelley arrived fresh from playing to huge crowds in Australia, where their self-titled debut album hit number one.

“It’s been incredible, we just got off our first Atlantic tour out in Australia and to go from – because we were opening for good friends of ours, Emblem3, we did two tours with them – and to go from that to another country and to see 3,500 people showing up for you is such a weird thing and it’s so humbling and it’s incredible and to hear people sing your music, I mean that’s the highlight of any artist’s career, it’s amazing,” said band member Tony Oller.

Both of them trained actors, Oller and Kelley first met on the set of the TV series ‘Gigantic’ in 2010 where they played best friends. And that’s what they became in real life.

“We also live together, I don’t think I could work with somebody or be around somebody this much if it wasn’t just truly a brother bond-ship, you know? We look out for each other at the end of the day, and this is something that we knew when we got into it, it’s more than that if we’re going to do this, it’s also business at the end of the day, it is a job, I mean you have a responsibility at the end of the day for what you need to do. So we love to have fun but, when it comes to working, we also work really hard,” said Oller.

Though many will have heard one of their songs on the radio, the pair have not yet become a household name in the Unioted States. The duo are now hoping to crack the music market back home with a summer tour round the US and Canada, before opening for Demi Lovato on her world tour starting in September.
