Football fans across the globe are gearing themselves up for the opening match of the 2014 World Cup, which kicks off at 22.00 CEST.
The opening match will be between hosts Brazil and Croatia at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.
With schools closed for the day across the city and offices wrapping up earlier than normal fans lucky to have a ticket to the game have been streaming into the stadium hours before kick-off.
In Rio de Janeiro a group of England supporters have been calming their nerves ahead of their team’s clash against Italy on Saturday on the beach.
“Being here with my mates is by far the best thing we could be doing right now. It’s the best way to make use of my summer time,” said one England fan.
FIFA is expecting the World Cup to be the most watched television event ever with global viewers figures estimated to be more than 3.2 billion.
