Philippine army detains leader of Abu Sayyaf militant group

The Philippine government says army troops and police have captured one of the country’s highest-ranking militants.

Khair Mundos is commander of the Abu Sayyaf militant group, which is linked to al-Qaeda, and on the US ‘Most Wanted’ list.

He is accused of involvement in bombings and kidnappings.

Security officials said he was arrested in a poor neighbourhood near Manila’s international airport.
