Novak Djokovic wore down mercurial Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought French Open semi final that saw the Serb suffer a sudden loss of form.
The world number two cruised through the first two sets but Gulbis overpowered him in the third when Djokovic’s level suddenly dipped and he seemed to be lacking energy.
Djokovic took advantage of some errors by his opponent in the fourth set, dragging the match into a decider which put the number two seed on course for the only grand slam title to elude him.
