The Taliban have released a video purportedly showing the handover of captured US Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl to the American military in Afghanistan.
US authorities returned five militants in exchange for the soldier, who was taken hostage almost five years ago in unknown circumstances.
Some Republican members of the US Congress have said the prisoner swap was a dangerous precedent to set and claim President Barack Obama may have broken the law.
Meanwhile, some fellow soldiers say they believe Bergdahl was seized after deserting his unit, in strict violation of national military regulations.
The American Army is to review the circumstances surrounding his capture and authorities say they will not ignore any misconduct by the released detainee.
US Joint Chiefs of Staff have stated the former detainee should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
While feeling within the US may be mixed, the message at the end of the Taliban video was clear. It read: “Don’ come back to afghanistan” (sic).
