Russia’s Maria Sharapova came from behind to beat Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in the French Open quarter-finals. The 2012 winner triumphed 1-6 7-5 6-1 and will next take on Eugenie Bouchard, after the Canadian edged out Carla Suarez Navarro in three sets.
Elsewhere, Andrea Petkovic reached her first Grand Slam semi-final with an emphatic straight sets win over former French Open runner-up Sara Errani. The 28th seed, who lost in qualifying last year, will now lock horns with Romania’s Simona Halep as she produced a superb display to down 2009 winner Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-2.
In the men’s draw, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic kept his composure to beat Milos Raonic in straight sets. The World number two earned his sixth semifinal berth at the French Open with a straight forward 7-5, 7-6, 6-4 win and will next face Ernests Gulbis in the last four.
Spain’s Rafael Nadal also progressed after beating David Ferrer in four sets. The eight-time champion conceded the first set before finding his range, eventually winning through 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, 6-1 to set up a mouth watering semi-final clash with Britain’s Andy Murray.
