World Cup 2014: Fourth time lucky for the Dutch?

Dutch coach Louis van Gaal and his World Cup squad hit the training ground on Tuesday ahead of their friendly match against Wales.

Thousands of Dutch supporters turned out to watch the squad go through their paces in Alkmaar which followed a poor performance in a friendly against Ghana at the weekend.

Playing in Rotterdam, the Netherlands beat their fellow World Cup qualifiers 1-0 thanks to an early Robin van Persie goal in a generally unconvincing display from the 2010 World Cup runners-up.

The Dutch, who have been unlucky finalists in three World Cups, will start their campaign with arguably one of the toughest opening games against Spain in a repeat of the 2010 final.

Louis Van Gaal will be without the injured Kevin Strootman and Hamburg’s Rafael van der Vaar while Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been deemed fit to play in Brazil despite missing half of the season with a knee injury.
