Masters champion Phil Mickelson is being investigated by the FBI over claims of insider trading involving investor Carl Icahn and Las Vegas sports gambler William Walters.
Mickelson, the winner of last year’s British Open and one of the world’s most successful golfers, said he was co-operating with the government inquiry.
According to reports, the FBI is interested in Mickelson’s and Walters’ trading of Clorox stock in 2011, when Icahn was attempting to take over the company.
The authorities are examining whether Icahn shared information of his takeover bid with Walters, and whether Walters passed that information on to Mickelson.
