World Cup: Argentina to count on deadly strike force

Alongside Spain and hosts Brazil, Argentina head to this summer’s world cup as one of the pre-tournament favourites and boast a star-studded line up that will take no one by surprise – as if they needed to.

The South American’s have won international football’s most coveted prize twice, in 1978 and 1986 but they last reached the competition’s showpiece match in 1990 when they lost to West Germany.

With four-time world player of the year Lionel Messi, Man City’s Sergio Agüero, Real Madrid’s Angel di María and Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuaín in their star-studded cast, the Albiceleste will be giving many a defender nightmares in the run up to the tournament.

Coach Alejandro Sabella and his men have been drawn in group F with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria and are expected to progress far into the knockout rounds.
