Brazil’s preparations to host the fast-approaching World Cup suffered yet another setback on Tuesday when heavy rain in Manaus has brought the roof down at the city’s airport.
Manaus – where England open up their World Cup campaign against Italy on June 14 – is located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, and access to the city is primarily through boat or airplane.
Heavy rain in the area has resulted in the flooding of the newly opened international terminal and the car parks below:
It has also resulted in a partial collapse of the roof above the arrivals area.
